It has been a busy few years for London’s psychedelic cowboys The Hanging Stars. Riding high on the success of their 5th long player, critically acclaimed On A Golden Shore, and having played sold out shows across the UK and Europe, the quartet have recently joined forces with Canadian folk legend Bonnie Dobson to record an album of brand new material called “Dreams”, out on the UK’s premier Americana label Loose Music this summer. Take me out in the morning dew, honey!
The Hanging Stars are guitarist/vocalist Richard Olson, drummer Paulie Cobra, guitarist/keyboardist Patrick Ralla and bassist Paul Milne. They have been making waves in the cosmic country world ever since they burst on to the London scene with their unique blend of sun dappled west coast Americana and distinctly British folksy psychedelia - all shimmering twelve string guitars, twangy telecasters and four part vocal harmonies. Where the blue skies of Los Angeles meet the grey London rain. "Glowing, cosmic UK Americana ... a set of epic soundtracks conjuring kindred spirits Teenage Fanclub and the Velvets" says MOJO magazine.
They picked up the coveted Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award at the AMAUK awards (Whispering Bob’s a fan, you know), crossed the Atlantic to play to a packed room at Third Man’s Blue Room, with owner Jack White approvingly looking on, at the Americanafest in Nashville and are about to head back into the studio to start work on album #6. This time with Teenage Fanclub legend Gerry Love and longtime collaborator Sean Read at the helm. The future is looking bright for The Hanging Stars.
